Star of Vis: Seven Acolytes & Seven Worlds

The Prophecy

“When the Seven Acolytes are all hailed—seven gray clay tokens on their pedestals, having reached the ‘Finish’ space in the Heavens of the North—the Seven Luminaries will revolve around the Star of Vis. A cosmic cataclysm shall rise, a twister of stars shall shine brightly, and the true followers will tremble and run. The Earth will shake, and the Seven Luminaries will seek out their hosts. Heroes will be born, beings will come to life, and new forces will enter the world.”

The Star of Vis

The Star of Vis is a blue-white shooting star that resides within the navy crystal ball. “Vis” is Latin for “wish,” reflecting the star’s mystical significance.

The Crystal Ball

The crystal ball is a clear, crystalline sphere with a deep navy hue. It houses the Star of Vis and can project both the Star and the Seven Luminaries, forming the Visean Cosmos in a mid-air hologram. When triggered, the crystal ball briefly displays the Hidden Rules before returning to the holographic view of the Visean Cosmos.

The Visean Cosmos

The Visean Cosmos is an Aristotelian-style universe, with the Star of Vis at its center. Surrounding it are the Seven Luminaries, each orbiting in their respective concentric planes, gradually moving farther from the Star.

The Seven Luminaries

The Seven Luminaries are light-giving bodies revolving around the Star of Vis in the following order:

  • The Scarlet Luminary – The First Plane (closest to the Star)
  • The Pink Luminary – The Second Plane
  • The Yellow Luminary – The Third Plane
  • The Orange Luminary – The Fourth Plane
  • The Seafoam Green Luminary – The Fifth Plane
  • The Cyan Luminary – The Sixth Plane
  • The Ivory Luminary – The Seventh Plane (farthest from the Star)

The Cosmic Gates

The Cosmic Gates are two doors located on either side of the Star of Vis. These doors act as a cover for the board, which is revealed once the gates are opened, adding a touch of grandeur and mystery.

The Followers

The board includes fifteen gray clay tokens, each representing characters from different genres. These tokens are referred to as Followers. Players in the game adopt these characters as their avatars.

Character Profiles

Each token corresponds to a character profile that includes the character’s backstory, presented on color-coded paperboards. These tokens, representing the Followers, can move on their own. The characters and their respective genres are as follows:

The Two Dice

Rolling the two dice determines the number of spaces a token moves along the platforms, which serve as the game’s playing spaces.

The Rules

The rules are located on the western Cosmic Gate (the back of the left door of the board). These outline the mechanics of the game and are as follows:

  1. Open the Gates – Welcome to The Star of Vis: Seven Acolytes & Seven Worlds!
  2. Pick a Token – There can only be seven players. Each player must choose a character that resonates with them and a world where they feel they truly belong.
  3. Gather the Seven Tokens and begin the game at the ‘Start’ space in the world of superheroes (East). The turn order is based on birth order, from eldest to youngest.
  4. Roll Two Dice to determine the number of spaces to move. Follow the color-coded platforms, spiral-shaped and leading toward the Star of Vis at the center.
  5. Fate Spaces – Special spaces colored in powder blue. When you land on one, draw a Fate Card from the Chest of Destiny and follow its instructions.
  6. Finish Space – Located in the Heavens of the North. After landing on this space, take your token to one of the seven pedestals around the Star of Vis inside the Visean Zodiac. You will ascend as an Acolyte, a true follower of Astrea, the Goddess of Stars.
  7. The game is complete when all seven Acolytes are hailed, and the Seven Luminaries revolve around the Star of Vis.

  1. Rolling double ones on START allows the player to advance directly to FINISH.
  2. If, by the fifth turn, your token is the only one in the Beehive, advance directly to FINISH.
  3. Landing on the lone gray platform, ‘The Chosen,’ moves the token directly to FINISH.
  4. If you are second to last, advance directly to FINISH.
  5. Rejoice! When the Seven Acolytes are hailed, the game is complete.

The Final Rule

The Twelfth Rule: When all tokens reach the FINISH space in Heaven, the Seven Acolytes ascend to the seven silver pedestals surrounding the Star of Vis. This marks the official completion of the game.

Ascension

When a token reaches FINISH in Heaven, the player ascends to Acolyte status by placing their token on one of the seven silver pedestals around the Star of Vis.

Pilgrimage

The journey of the tokens across the Seven Worlds to the holy Pillars of Acolyte—the silver pedestals surrounding the crystal ball at the center of the board.
