Laiya Beach, a well-known tourist destination in San Juan, Batangas, is home to the humble Mallari family. Ricardo “Carding” Mallari works as a caretaker at a beachside guesthouse, while his wife, Carlota, is a devoted homemaker famous for her sweet fruit salad, a treat that brings joy to their family. Their children each contribute in their own way: Rogelio “Roel” helps support the family as a convenience store crew member, Katherine “Kate” spends her summers waitressing at her godfather’s restaurant, Aling Corazon, and the youngest, Jacob and Andrew, are lively little boys always engaged in playful mischief.

Among them is Roanne Mallari, the second eldest—a simple yet hardworking promdi girl with long, straight black hair (usually tied in a single braid), deep brown eyes, a small face, tan skin, and a tall, slender frame. After graduating from high school, Roanne took on a job as a seamstress, making dresses to help support her family. With Roel starting his own family, she shoulders more responsibility as a provider, taking her work seriously.

Nurturing and maternal, Roanne takes after her mother, often looking after her younger sisters, Christine and Sarah. She cherishes their bedtime story sessions, filling their imaginations with tales of romance and adventure. Among her favorites is The Little Mermaid, a story she holds close to her heart. Drawn to the sea, she frequently swims in the ocean, finding solace and tranquility in its embrace. Though her family approves of Kokoy, a virtuous young suitor, Roanne only sees him as a good friend—she believes in marrying for true love.

A Game That Changed Everything

Three years ago, Roanne’s life took an unexpected turn when she befriended nine-year-old Christopher “Topher” Kennedy, a visiting Fil-Am boy. One fateful night, she accompanied Topher and his cousins into a mysterious cave, where they stumbled upon an enchanted board game—the Star of Vis. As they played, they unknowingly set off a cosmic cataclysm, unleashing the Seven Luminaries. The Seafoam Green Luminary struck Roanne, momentarily transforming her into a mermaid before returning her to normal.

Years later, during a routine swim, Roanne’s dormant powers reawaken, turning her into a mermaid once more. She soon realizes that she has become Princess Ruana, the very character she selected from the board game.

Princess of the Sea

As Princess Ruana, Roanne discovers an entirely new world beneath the waves, befriending three loyal sea creatures:

  • Christian, a stern red hermit crab,
  • Yonder, an endearing pufferfish,
  • Galileo, a dumb yet well-meaning seagull.

With their guidance, Ruana sets out to recover an enchanted conch shell—an artifact that grants her the ability to transform between mermaid and human form. As a mermaid, she has long, flowing red hair and a shimmering sea-green tail, while in her land form, she becomes a regal sea maiden dressed in flowing seafoam green and lavender, wielding a silver moon bell scepter.

Powers of the Ocean

Ruana’s abilities are deeply connected to the sea, allowing her to heal wounds with enchanted water, summon protective barriers, bind foes with seaweed, and conjure seafoam bubbles to push enemies away. She also possesses the gift of telepathy, enabling her to communicate with marine creatures.

However, beneath her graceful exterior lies a hidden power—one that, if left unchecked, could lead to her downfall.

Will Ruana embrace her destiny as the princess of the sea, or will the mysteries of her power lead her into perilous waters?
