Ronald the Mechanic

Ronaldo ‘Ronald’ Batumbakal Pangilinan

By day, Ronald maintains the appearance of a hardworking man in gusot mayaman business attire, but the moment he steps through the portal, he becomes the Peregrine’s head mechanic—working alongside two robots in the depths of space!

I’m choosing Mr. Zanjoe Marudo, 42 to portray the role of Uncle Ronald, 37 (Part I) and 40 (Parts II-IV).

Sir Zanjoe hails from Tanauan, Batangas. The same as the Pangilinan clan in the story (Batangas only). So, I thought, that there would be more authenticity if I cast at least one actor who is bonafide Batangueno.

ROBO4000

For all ROBO4000’s (originally ROBO3000) neuroticism, he is a reliable and indispensable assistant to Captain McKinley (Benjamin), serving as the commander’s steady hands and arms in both a figurative and literal sense.

This one is gonna be motion capture, I think. I don’t have an idea about the actor who would be doing that as of now.

Supporting Cast

CleanBot

Beyond CleanBot’s cleaning duties, he takes on various domestic tasks in the headquarters, including cooking and serving meals in the large cafeteria, doing laundry, watering extraterrestrial plants, and even answering calls from the vintage rotary phone in the 1950s-style den.

This one is computer animated, I assume. For CleanBot’s potential voice actor, I don’t have a single clue.

Recurring Character: MAurI&S.E.

MAurI.&SE (Multifunctional Artificial Intelligence & Search Engine) is the advanced AI system integrated into the Peregrine spaceship, the Seven Acolytes’ main headquarters. 

It would be nice for the spaceship’s AI to sound like Baymax from Big Hero 6 (2014).

Supporting Cast: The Pangilinan Clan

The Kennedy Family

The Kennedys reside in a three-story, 1500 m² New Classical mansion in Austin, Texas.

Atty. Selena Kennedy (nee Pangilinan)

Atty. Selena, a CPA lawyer, defends her clients with calm resolve. She is the nurturing and protective Filipina mother of Topher and the loving wife of Dr. Bill. 

I imagined Selena, 41 (Part I) and 44 (Parts II-IV) as Ms. Angel Locsin, 39. Yeah, the actress playing the role.

This casting choice, it’s based on Ms. Angel’s performance as Lyka Ortega in Imortal (2010). Lyka is the mother of Lia, the heroine, as Selena is the mother of Topher, the hero of the story.

For Selena during college, 17-18, I’m going for Ms. Kathryn Bernardo, 29. She has played before as daughter of Angel Locsin’s character in La Luna Sangre (2017).

Dr. Christopher Alexander William ‘Bill’ Kennedy, Jr.

Bill, the CEO of Archangel Raphael Medical Inc. and a cardiothoracic surgeon, is Topher’s dad and Selena’s white American husband. 

It would be a ‘wish come true’ for Mr. Chris Hemsworth, 41 to portray Dr. Bill, in his 40s.

Mr. Hemsworth took on the role of Orion Pax before he is Optimus Prime. Sir Chris really nailed the hero archetype for me. So, I think, that makes him great as the dad of the Star of Vis‘ protagonist, Topher.

Mr. Carlisle Worthington

Carlisle Worthington serves as the loyal and cultured butler of the Kennedy family.

Only in my dreams, Mr. Daryl McCormack, 32 is my Carlisle who is in late 20s to early 30s throughout the story. The actor got the dashing look and especially those captivating eyes that I envisioned for Mr. Worthington to make Morissette swoon.

Yeah, I just did two Hollywood castings there! Crazy, but as the Filipino saying goes, “Libre lang mangarap.” (It’s free to dream — so make it grand and big!)

The Sevilla Family

The Sevillas live in a spacious 300 m² shabby chic apartment on the 28th floor of the sleek, high-end Ashford Residences. 

Mrs. Nathalia ‘Thalia’ Sevilla

Nathalia ‘Thalia’ Pangilinan Sevilla

Thalia owns and manages the Queen Thalia Salon, where she also works as a senior image stylist. She is the mother of Allison and the wife of Eric (whom she calls Enrico), a hedge fund manager who funded her salon. 

For Thalia who is mid to late 30s, I’m going with Ms. Angelica Panganiban, 38. She is a mestiza (fair-skinned) as I envisioned the mother of Allison.

I like to think Thalia as Claudia Buenavista from Pangako Sa’Yo (2015). As flamboyant and dramatic but not really a villainess.

Mr. Enrico ‘Eric’ Sevilla

Enrico ‘Eric’ Mercado Sevilla

Eric is a hedge fund manager at Scott-Morris Financial Group in Makati’s business district. He’s married to Thalia, and while they often bicker, they have a strong bond.

For Enrico who’s in his 40s, I’m picking Mr. Joem Bascon, 38. He is, I think, matches that tall, dark and handsome middle-aged man that I envisioned Enrico to be.

I’d like to think Enrico is a more toned down from the more antagonistic Don de Castro from Maria Leonora Teresa (2014). But still a bit jerk and edgy on the side.

Morissette Pascua

Morissette is the funny, self-assured maid of the Sevilla household. She handles everything: cleaning, cooking, laundry, and caring for Allison.

Ms. Moi Marcampo is my personal choice for Morissette, 30s. From what I know, she is a comedienne herself. So, it’d be only a piece of cake for her to do the ‘funny maid.’

I imagined Morissette closely to Inday Moi from The Mommy Returns (2012), similar in personality and with that exact bob cut (whatever that hairstyle is!).

The Pangilinan Family

A middle-income large family in the bustling and populous Quezon City.

Mr. Gregorio ‘Greg’ Pangilinan

Gregorio ‘Greg’ Batumbakal Macatangay Pangilinan

Greg is the manager of a store that sells automobile accessories and the patriarch of the Pangilinan family.

My Greg, 38 (Part I) and 41 (Parts II-IV) is no other than Mr. Piolo Pascual, 48. He has that mestizo and moreno mixed look I imagined Greg to be — tan but with European features.

Marco, from Starting Over Again (2014), strikes me as love-struck and occasionally comedic. And yeah, I want those endearing traits passed on to Greg.

Mrs. Mathilda ‘Martha’ Pangilinan

Mathilda ‘Martha’ Macatangay Pangilinan

Martha is a high school Filipino teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes School, where she teaches the Philippine language and literature. 

The actress I have in mind to portray Martha, 38 (Part I) and 41 (Parts II-IV), is Ms. Shaina Magdayao, 35.

Gabbie Salazar from Four Sisters and A Wedding (2013) shares her field, education, with Martha. The former is a professor in the movie, I think.

Mary Pangilinan

Mary Jane Macatangay Pangilinan

Mary is the fourth child of Greg and Martha. Not only does her name resemble her mother’s, but she also shares a striking resemblance in both appearance and personality. 

Honestly, I don’t have idea of which child actress. But it’s an imperative that whoever the child actress would be, she has to have a strong resemblance to Ms. Shaina to portray Mary, 6 (Part I) and 9 (Parts II-IV). As Mary is Martha’s splitting image.

The Agoncillo Family (formerly Argentes)

Mrs. Eleanora ‘Ellie’ Agoncillo

Eleanora ‘Ellie’ Pangilinan Agoncillo

Ellie, married to Ansel, is a former career counselor with a degree in Industrial Psychology. Now a homemaker like her mother, Emily, she devotes her time to her family. 

For Ellie, 24 (Part I) and 27 (Part II), I’m going for Ms. Jodi Sta. Maria, 42.

Based on Ms. Jodi’s performance as Maya dela Rosa from Be Careful with my Heart (2012).

I know that there’s kinda wide age gap between the character and the actress. But as I see it, Ms. Jodi is somewhat baby faced and ages slowly. But it is understandable if the network opts for a younger performer to close the age gap.

Mr. Anselmo ‘Ansel’ Agoncillo

Anselmo ‘Ansel’ Salcedo Agoncillo

Ansel, the quiet and supportive husband of Ellie, is a civil engineer who became a project team leader early in his career due to his intelligence and hard work. 

I originally envisioned Ansel, late 20s to early 30s throughout the story, with the looks of Mr. Carlos Morales, 48. From what I last heard, he already left showbiz to be a registered nurse in the US.

As alternative, I thought of Mr. James Blanco, 43.

Based on Mr. James’ previous role as Kenneth del Rosario both in One More Chance (2007) and its sequel A Second Chance (2015).

Mr. Carlos got the look I wanted for Ansel but Mr. James comes to me as the actor who is more suited for the depiction of ‘quiet and supportive.’

Guest Appearances: Baby Felicity

Felicity Lilibeth Pangilinan Agoncillo

Baby Felicity is the infant daughter of Ellie and Ansel — a miracle after struggling to have a child for three years.

Yeah, for the casting of the little ones, I’m often speechless. But I trust the network can find an adorable baby girl to fulfill the role.

The Grandparents

Grandpa Alejandro ‘Al’ Pangilinan

Mr. Federico Alejandro ‘Al’ Monleon Pangilinan

Grandpa Al owns a land. There, he grows sugarcanes with his workers.

I envisioned Grandpa Al, early to mid 60s, as a moreno old man, so, the actor I thought of who could play him is Mr. Bembol Roco, 71.

Granny Emilia ‘Emily’ Pangilinan

Mrs. Emilia ‘Emily’ Batumbakal Pangilinan

Lola Emily is a homemaker. She cooks for breakfast like the daing na bangus.

I envisioned Granny Emily, early to mid 70s, as a mestiza. So, I thought of Ms. Helen Gamboa, 79.

The Mallari Family

Ricardo ‘Carding’ Mallari

Carding is the patriarch and chief provider of the Mallari family. He works as a caretaker for a guesthouse at the beach resort.

My personal casting choice for Carding, 40s is no other than Mr. TJ Trinidad, 49.

Based on Mr. TJ’s special participation as Rodrigo Cortes in Ngayon at Kailanman (2018). Not for the character being a wealthy heir but when he opted for simpler life for love.

Carlota Mallari

Carlota is the matriarch of the Mallari family, a devoted housewife who is the heart and light that keeps them together. 

My personal choice for Carlota, early 40s is Ms. Iza Calzado, 42.

This is based on Ms. Iza’s ensemble role Rebecca Marquez-Young also in Ngayon at Kailanman (2018).

Inspired by the love story of Rebecca and Rodrigo at the beginning of Ngayon at Kailanman (2018) of building a simple life together. Before the tragedy, getting rich and revenge plot.

Rogelio ‘Roel’ Mallari

Roel is the eldest son of the Mallari family. After high school, he began working as a crew member in a convenience store, restocking shelves with goods and supplies. 

I’m picking Mr. Anjay Anson, 21 for the role of Roel, 18-21 throughout the story. For the actor’s stronger and more prominent facial features.

Roel is also a convenience store worker like Mr. Anjay’s character Andoy from Open 24/7 (2023), a weekends sitcom.

Katheryn ‘Kate’ Mallari

Kate is Roanne’s younger sister and works as a waitress at their godfather’s beach resort restaurant, Aling Corazon, while Roanne works as a cashier. 

For Kate, 13, I don’t have a teen actress in mind.

However, for Kate, 16, as I envisioned her, the closest actress I can think of is Ms. Kate Valdez, 24.

Minor Characters: Christine, Sarah, Jacob & Andrew

The Younger Mallari Children

Christine and Sarah listen to the bedtime stories of their big sister, Roanne. While Jacob and Andrew do their Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. And if not, the two boys run and fool around.

Part I: Jacob, 11; Andrew, 9; Christine, 7 and Sarah, 5.
Part II: Jacob, 14; Andrew, 12; Christine, 10 and Sarah, 8. (The producers should keep these ages in mind for the child actors.)

Ezra Santos

Lead Vocalist

Ezra Santos is The Kaleidoscope‘s lead vocalist/second singer and lead guitarist, delivering both melodic solos, intricate riffs, and high-energy parts that define the band’s dynamic sound. 

Ezra, 14 — no idea!

For Ezra, 17, I’m picking Mr. Allen Ansay, 21. The actor has the look that closely resembles the character.

Ezra bears similarities with Mr. Allen’s character Al in Open 24/7 (2023).

Apollo Magdangal

Rhythm Guitarist

Apollo Magdangal is The Kaleidoscope’s sub-vocalist and rhythm guitarist, providing steady musical support and harmonies for the band.

I don’t have anything to say about the Apollo, 15.

For Apollo, 18, I’m backing Mr. Kimson Tan, 25. He is a big guy like the character.

Mr. Kimson made an impression on me with his role as Kokoy from Open 24/7 (2023) as well.

Kai Calzado

Keyboardist

Kai Calzado is the fourth member of The Kaleidoscope and serves as the band’s keyboardist, songwriter, and composer, shaping the sound of their original music. 

The teen actor for Kai, 14 has never crossed my mind.

For Kai, 17, I’m selecting Mr. Vince Maristela, 25. I think, it’s a smart choice.

This is based on Mr. Vince’s performance as Tristan Ferell in Luv Is: Caught In His Arms (2023).

Rowan Ramos

Drummer

At 16 years old, Rowan Ramos is the youngest and final addition to The Kaleidoscope.

Three years prior; the Rowan, 13. No clue.

But for Rowan, 16; three years later. I’m dropping a name: it’s Mr. Abed Green, 25.

I noticed Mr. Abed from his role as Fred in Open 24/7 (2023). I must admit, I kinda liked that sitcom.
